Carved Pottery by Joann Cassady

After hours and hours of burnishing and hand building pots, I find it relaxing to throw (on a potter's wheel) and carve my pieces for a while. When the pieces are thrown and trimmed they are left to air dry to a leather hard stage. At that point, they are either carved or covered with a colored slip and then carved. Unlike my pit fired or terra sigillata pieces, these are glazed and can be used as functional pieces.
